Acupuncture is a medical treatment within Chinese medicine. Chinese medicine has been used to diagnose, treat and prevent illness for thousands of years. Its theory says that our physical, mental and emotional state is dependent upon the life giving energy, called Qi (“chee”), that flows throughout our body through specific pathways called meridians. There are fourteen main meridians inside the body. We experience good health and a sense of well being when the flow of energy is smooth, balanced and uninterrupted. An imbalance or blockage of this energy can result in disease and pain. An acupuncturist places fine, sterile needles at specific points along the meridians that are out of balance or blocked to help the body rebalance and heal itself.
Acupuncture is also great for preventative care. When you find yourself feeling stressed or not quite right, without any major issues, acupuncture can help boost your system back in to balance before it becomes something more. And with periodic tune-ups you can keep yourself healthy.
